Celebrating Women’s HerStory: Michaela Dalrymple, 3L
Micaela Dalrymple (3L) serves as President of the Women’s Law Caucus (WLC) at Detroit Mercy Law. The WLC empowers members to succeed in law school and in their careers, and works to improve the quality of life for women in the community through fundraising and outreach.
“As a first-generation, woman law student entering a predominantly male field, I found a sense of community in the Women's Law Caucus,” stated Dalrymple. “We provide a support network for women in law school. It’s great to know you're not alone in what you're going through. We have a vast network of not only alumni, but people from the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM), who are really eager to help out female law students.”
Dalrymple previously served as a county liaison to the Oakland Region of WLAM. “They were amazing at contacting us with opportunities to network and providing insight into internship opportunities. They were eager to come to come campus and assist.”
Dalrymple encourages law students to learn to debate and challenge opinions. “This is important, especially as a woman.” She also advocates for mentorship and representation to break down barriers and create more opportunities for women. “It is crucial to walk the next generation through doors and say here are opportunities.”
This Women’s History Month, the WLC will host a panel and mixer event for members to learn from and network with women in the field. To learn more, contact the WLC. https://law.udmercy.edu/students/student-organizations/womens-law-caucus.
