ABLA Cookout
Saturday, August 8, 2026, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Detroit Mercy Law Student Parking Lot
Join Detroit Mercy Law's Association of Black Law Alumni (ABLA) for an afternoon of food, fellowship and fun at the annual ABLA Cookout. Detroit Mercy Law alumni, students, faculty/staff, and friends of ABLA are invited to enjoy some tasty grilled treats, great conversation, music, games and more. Tickets are FREE. A minimum donation of $10 or more is appreciated. All proceeds support the David Williams II ’82 & Gail Carr Williams ’83 Endowed Scholarship Fund. University of Detroit Mercy School of Law appointed J. Richard Broughton, Associate Dean of Faculty Research and Development and Professor of Law, as the Philip J. McElroy Professor of Law, in recognition of his distinguished contributions to legal scholarship and teaching.
University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s 2025 graduates achieved a 93 percent employment rate in legal and professional positions. Graduates secured employment in a variety of settings, including positions with law firms, courts, and government, business, and public interest organizations across the United States and Canada.
Detroit Mercy Law is the first and only law school to offer an online JD program in Michigan. Applications are now open for the first incoming class, to begin in fall 2026. The program is designed to be a fully-online, part-time, four-year program.
