Celebrating Pride: Jillian Jones, 2L
Jillian Jones, 2L, was excited to find out that she didn’t need to create an LGBTQIA+ student organization when she started law school at Detroit Mercy Law. “OUTLaws was already in existence and had such an amazing board. OUTLaws was a major part of me being able to have good mental health coming through my first year of law school,” she explained.
Jones will take over the role of President for the organization for the 2024-2025 school year. OUTLaws is a student organization that advocates for the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ perspectives within the law school, and works with allies, with the school, and beyond to end discrimination in all forms.
“As a woman and member of the LGBTQ community, and as a first-generation student, my background has given me the ability to connect with people of similar background as well as to connect with students from other backgrounds. I’m impressed with how culturally diverse the student body is at Detroit Mercy Law, and there are so many active organizations, representing so many different backgrounds,” she said.
