The Detroit Mercy Law CSO grants reciprocal privileges to students and graduates of National Association for Law Placement (NALP)-member law schools that grant reciprocal privileges to Detroit Mercy Law students and graduates under the following policy:
- The Detroit Mercy Law CSO grants reciprocal privileges to students and graduates of NALP-member law schools that grant reciprocal privileges to Detroit Mercy Law students and graduates.
- All requests for reciprocal privileges on behalf of students and graduates must be made in writing. Requests may be made by email to cso@udmercy.edu. Telephone requests are not accepted.
- If reciprocal privileges are granted, the Detroit Mercy Law CSO will issue a confirmation letter or email. Reciprocal privileges are valid for a period of three months from the date of the confirmation letter or email. Reciprocal privileges are not available between August 1st and November 1st. At the end of the three-month period, students may direct a request for an extension to cso@udmercy.edu. Extensions are granted for a maximum of thirty days.
- A student or graduate who is granted reciprocal privileges should have his or her confirmation letter or email with him or her when visiting Detroit Mercy Law’s CSO.
- Reciprocal privileges include access to Detroit Mercy Law’s job postings via Career Connect powered by Symplicity. Privileges do not include individual counseling, editing of cover letters, resumes, or other job application documents, participation in on-campus interviews, resume forwarding, or job fairs.
- When responding to a job posting received through Detroit Mercy Law, the student or graduate must indicate that information regarding the position was obtained through a reciprocal arrangement between his or her school and Detroit Mercy Law.
- The Detroit Mercy Law CSO may deny further reciprocal privileges to the students and graduates of a law school that surpasses a reasonable number of requests within a given year or in-state law schools. It is within the CSO’s discretion to determine what is reasonable. Additionally, reciprocal privileges granted to an individual student or graduate may be revoked if the individual does not abide by this reciprocity policy.
