It’s been a long day.  Tuesdays are long days for me. They start with 9am Contracts (which means I’m up at 7am), an hour break and then ALTA until 1pm. Starting next week, the wonderful Karen will be offering our CivPro review sessions from 1:30-2:30. This gives me exactly 30 minutes to get home, 5 minutes to drop off my school stuff and grab my property homework and then 10 minutes to get to my babysitting job. Then, I don’t get home again...

Happy MLK Jr. Day! In observance of MLK Day, we were treated to a three-day weekend! Although I didn’t get as much studying and reading done as I would have liked, I can’t deny that it was a productive weekend. My big task was to convert our spare bedroom into an office. We really do not have visitors that often, and we (okay, mostly I…) decided that the space would be much better used as a place for me to study. This involved moving out a lot ...

Make the most of your law school experience.  Most evening law students work during the day as well as have families and other obligations to tend to. This makes it a bit challenging to get the exposure and experience in the field before graduating.  Law school opens up a world of opportunity and  being an evening student should not stop you from getting practical experience early on.  When people see you work h...

Hello again…  I hope everyone has had and enjoyable and relaxing holiday.   Our holiday break was wonderful, albeit short. I reserved myself plenty of time to relax and attempt to not think about school, time to have fun with friends…and before I realized it, it was three days before back-to-school and I realized that practically nothing had been crossed off my “winter break to-do list.” That last weekend of break was just a bit hecti...

Well, that’s that.   I just got home from completing my first final, torts. It was a long four hours…but I think I did well. Now it’s time to play the waiting game (as you may have noticed, everything about law school includes waiting games, from the LSAT and applications, all the way to waiting for Bar results) and try not to worry about it. There are more important things to worry about at the moment…namely property law.   I feel so...

There seriously is not enough time in a day.  Yesterday, I went to campus for a contracts review session in the morning and then a few of us from the St. Thomas More Society helped with the Christmas trees at the church next door. I don’t think any of us anticipated that would entail using rope to lower tree parts down from the old choir loft! Then, we had to figure out which tree pieces fit together…for all 16 trees! It was kind of crazy, ...

Time management is a life skill that spills over into law school, exams, and eventually the practice.     Before starting law school I was a procrastinator -- not any more.  Law school has no place for people dragging their feet.   It's all about self discipline and good habits.  This academic environment has taught me a lot about myself.  One thing that remains constant is that although my efficiency and ...

Another Monday…our last Monday of the semester!  This week, we have only three days of classes. Under ordinary circumstances, this would be cause for celebration. However, this means that there is about a week until Final #1. Yikes.  Today, I got to school early…to do homework. What else is new? At 11:30, I took an hour-long property practice exam. We will be discussing it at our review session on Thursday, so we’ll see how it goes. A...

After recently contemplating whether I made the correct decision to attend law school, I turned to a dear friend and mentor for advice.  I was reminded that law school is challenging for anyone.  This challenge, however, is increased when raising a family, working during the day, and attending law school at night.   It's all a juggling act for me.  Most evening law students have many equally important tasks that must be a...

So this weekend was supposed to be major catch-up weekend where I was going to have all sorts of time to really get myself prepared for finals. Maybe I was a bit overoptimistic… Wednesday, I did stay after to finish watching the BarBri contracts video and then spent some time working on my torts reading for Monday…but that evening was spent with friends who go to school out of state who were home for the holiday. Thanksgiving was the day that I...
