As a first-year law student, you can secure hands-on work experience.

First-year students at Detroit Mercy Law serve clients through mini-clinics.  In the past, students have assisted with immigration matters, criminal expungements, and Social Security Disability. These experiences distinguish Detroit Mercy Law students on their resumes. During the summer between your first and second year, you will have the opportunity to gain additional legal experience. At the Public Interest Fair, first-year students are able to meet with over twenty employers and secure summer internships with public interest organizations and government offices. Students also work at law firms, in judicial chambers, and with legal departments of Detroit-based businesses. The downtown location of Detroit Mercy Law is within walking distance of many of these employers!
