As a First-Year Law Student, You'll Have the Opportunity to Secure Hands-On Work Experience

First-year students at Detroit Mercy Law serve clients through mini-clinics.  In the past, first-year students assisted with immigration matters, criminal expungements, and Social Security Disability. These experiences distinguish Detroit Mercy Law students on their resumes. During the summer, our first-year students gain legal experience. At the Public Interest Fair, first-year students meet with over twenty employers and secure internships with public interest organizations and government offices. First-year students also work at law firms, in judicial chambers, and with legal departments of Detroit-based businesses. The downtown location of Detroit Mercy Law is within walking distance of many of these employers!
