    How to Join

    JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

A student is eligible for membership on Law Review as a Junior Member if the student has, at the conclusion of the Spring Term, earned at least 24 credit hours and attained, at a minimum, a 2.8 GPA.This includes all Dual JD, part-time, and 3L Candidates.  However, students may only become Junior Members of the Law Review following the conclusion of the Spring Term.  For example, a student, regardless of his or her student program  status (i.e. day student, night student, extended day student or extended night student), who concludes the Spring Term with twenty-three or fewer credit hours will not be eligible for Law Review membership.  Once that student has accumulated the necessary twenty-four credit hours, whether it is in the Fall or the Spring Term, he or she shall be eligible for membership at the conclusion of the Spring Term.

    WRITE-ON REQUIREMENT

A student must complete the write-on requirements to become a member of Law Review. This problem will be released shortly after the conclusion of the Spring Term, and will be designed to enable the Executive Board to effectively assess the writing, analytical, grammar, and citation skills of those students electing to write-on to the Law Review.  All students competing for junior membership will be assigned the same writing assignment and an anonymous pin for the purposes of grading your submission.

    TRANSFER STUDENTS

A transfer student shall have the opportunity to write-on to Law Review as a Junior Member, if they satisfy the eligibility requirements listed above.  If you are transferring to the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and would like to join the Law Review, please contact us as soon as possible, and we will make arrangements for you to complete the write-on problem.

    Employer: Michigan Court of Appeals
    Graduation: May '19
Favorite Activities: Running, reading for fun, and spending time with family and friends.

Why did you want to be a member of Law Review?
I wanted to be on Law Review because I enjoy reading and writing. My love for reading and writing were the reasons I came to law school and I knew that being on Law Review would give me the opportunity to do what I love and sharpen my legal writing skills.

Thus far, what has been the most rewarding experience of Law Review?
The most rewarding part of being on Law Review was having my Note selected for publication. When my Note was selected for publication, I knew that my hard work had paid off and that I could be proud of the legal writing skills I had accumulated from being on Law Review.

How has being a member of Law Review helped you in your academics?
Law Review has instilled in me the necessary skills that I need to succeed as a young female attorney. For instance, the skills I have gained from the Law Review continue to be invaluable in my upper level writing courses. The process of editing scholarly work has taught me to pay strict attention to detail and capitalize on my targeted research skills.

    Undergraduate: University of Iowa
Favorite Activities: Exploring Detroit restaurants with friends!

Why did you want to be a member of Law Review?
I wanted to be on law review because it's an excellent opportunity to research a topic that you may just have an opinion about. I have found the education on my topic extremely useful, and am sure that I'll apply the practice of outlining, editing, and citation work in whatever future jobs I have.

Thus far, what has been the most rewarding experience of Law Review?
The most rewarding part of Law Review is probably this home-stretch phase. Writing a note seemed very daunting at the beginning, and to be honest, I didn't feel totally capable. This has been a long year, and nearing the end of my editing processes is very rewarding.

How has being a member of Law Review helped you in your academics?
Law Review has been most helpful in citation formatting and time management as it relates to other academic commitments.
