Charity Dean ’15 Receives 2021 Detroit Mercy Law Rising Star Award
Charity Dean ’15 received the 2021 University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Rising Star Award. The Rising Star Award originated in 2016 to recognize recent graduates of Detroit Mercy Law who go above and beyond to support the School of Law.
While in law school, Dean began working at the Detroit Land Bank and quickly grew in city government. Until 2021, she was the Director of Civil Rights, Inclusion, and Opportunity for the City of Detroit. Dean is now President and CEO of the Metro Detroit Black Business Alliance.
“I am so grateful to be an alumna and adjunct professor at this amazing law school that has demonstrated to me its commitment to service and equity since I was student,” Dean commented.
Dean teaches Professional Responsibility as an adjunct. She has participated in Lunch with a Lawyer with the Career Services Office. The Lunch with a Lawyer program hosts attorneys, judges, and business leaders, many of whom are Detroit Mercy Law alumni, who visit with students and provide career advice. Dean also has had multiple students complete externships under her supervision.
