Deans-Reception.pngUniversity of Detroit Mercy School of Law hosted this year’s Dean’s Reception for Incoming Students on May 19, 2020 via Zoom with 150 future students, faculty members, administrators, currents students, and alumni in attendance.

“This was unlike any other Dean’s Reception we’ve held,” commented Dean Phyllis L. Crocker. “The participation in this event shows the strength of our community, our commitment to educating the complete lawyer and our full support of our incoming students.

The event opened with remarks by the Dean, followed by introductions.  Each group of participants--future students, current students, professors and administrators, and alumni and friends--waved as participants scrolled through multiple screens to see everyone in attendance.  Then, future students were split into small group breakout rooms to meaningfully connect with their future classmates, colleagues, and professors.

The enthusiasm of future students was evident in the breakout sessions.  “After the event, I received many comments from alumni and professors about how impressed they were with our incoming students,” stated Jennifer Rumschlag, Associate Dean of Enrollment and Communications.  “And, I agree, our incoming students are an impressive group of future lawyers.  We value students who get involved.  Their turnout for this event showed their commitment to immersing themselves into the Detroit Mercy Law and legal communities, and we look forward to continuing to help them make connections as they enter the profession.”

Following the event, an incoming student commented, “Thank you for the opportunity to meet the vast network of Detroit Mercy Law. I was able to meet a number of professors and students during the call and plan to further connect with them. Looking forward to seeing everyone in the fall!”

The admissions team continues to be available to future students by email at, as well as by phone and video conference, as appropriate.
