Associate Dean Nicholas Schroeck Receives the James T. Barnes, Sr. Memorial Faculty Scholar Award

Professor Nicholas Schroeck, Associate Dean of Experiential Education, was awarded the 2020 James T. Barnes, Sr. Memorial Faculty Scholar Award. Each year, a full-time faculty member is chosen to receive this award based on scholarship, teaching excellence, and public service.  

Professor Schroeck is a sought-after environmental law scholar, often giving commentary on timely news issues to numerous news outlets. Under his direction, the clinics received state and national awards, including the 2020 Ilene and Michael Shaw Public Service Award from the National Federal Bar Association and the Kimberly M. Cahill Leadership Award from the State Bar of Michigan.  

“Professor Schroeck is a scholar with true community impact and a dedication to public service that truly helps the community,” commented one of his nominators.  

Professor Schroeck joined the faculty at Detroit Mercy Law in 2018 and was appointed as Associate Dean of Experiential Education in 2019. He oversees the law school’s nationally recognized clinical program, teaches the environmental law clinic, and oversees the law school’s robust externship program.
