Detroit Mercy Law Announces 2020 Alumni Award Recipients

October 01, 2020

Every fall, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law honors two alumni for their dedication to the school with the Rising Star Award and the Time and Talent Award. The awards are traditionally presented at the Homecoming Golf Outing.

The 2020 Rising Star Award recipient is Adam M. Wenner ’11. The Rising Star Award originated in 2016 to recognize recent graduates of Detroit Mercy Law who go above and beyond to volunteer and support the School of Law.

Wenner is currently a partner at Honigman and was previously a clerk for Judge Julian Abele Cook, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and Judge Nancy G. Edmunds of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. In 2015, Wenner began teaching the Judicial Clerkship Seminar as an adjunct at Detroit Mercy Law.

“Right before I graduated, I remember a conversation I had with an alumnus of the Law School about clerkships. He told me this—whatever value you receive from my advice, pay it forward,” Wenner commented when he learned he received the award. “That resonated with me and has been my experience with nearly every Detroit Mercy Law graduate I encounter.”

The 2020 Time and Talent Award recipient is John Clark ‘06. The Time and Talent Award was established by the Board of Directors of the Law Alumni Association in 2002 to honor alumni who have given their time and talent through their distinguished leadership and dedicated service to Detroit Mercy Law and its Alumni Association.

Clark is a member at Clark Law Firm PLLC. He was a member of the Detroit Mercy Law Alumni Board from 2007 – 2019 and served on the Law Voice for Justice Committee for several years. Clark stays connected to the law school by attending events and mentoring and supporting students.
