Professor Boyce studied classics and mathematics at Yale University and Greek, Latin, and Sanskrit classics at Brown University. After obtaining his doctorate he taught literature and classical languages at the University of Massachusetts, and Harvard, Howard, and Rutgers Universities.

In 1995 he graduated from the Northwestern University School of Law and moved to Washington, D.C. where he practiced law in the litigation section of a large firm. He left to teach for two years at Tulane Law School in New Orleans, and then returned to Washington to practice in the public interest sector. He joined the faculty of the University of Detroit in 2005.

Professor Boyce has published several articles on constitutional and comparative law and a book on Latin literature. His research interests include constitutional law, comparative law, international law, and legal history.
