Professor Saybolt began his legal career with Ford Motor Company where he handled a wide array of U.S. and international business transactions, environmental and regulatory matters, tax planning issues, government relations work and senior executive level management roles. During his thirty-year career with Ford, Professor Saybolt served as the Vice President – General Counsel and Secretary of Ford of Europe, the Company's largest operation outside of the U.S., and lived in London, England where he was active in promoting the use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms for resolving commercial disputes. In 2004, Professor Saybolt retired from Ford as the Associate General Counsel – Global Business Operations with responsibility for the work of 65 lawyers in the U.S. and locations in Europe, Mexico, Canada, South America, China and Asia-Pacific.

Since joining the UDM School of Law faculty, Professor Saybolt has become the Director of the Law Firm Program, UDM's series of upper level simulated law practice courses. He teaches Business Organizations, International Business Transactions, International Trade & NAFTA, Comparative Sales Law and the Cross Border Sales and Financing course in the Dual J.D. Program with the University of Windsor. Professor Saybolt is a self professed "news junky" and often starts his classes with a news item from the financial press that helps bring to life the topic or issue of the day.
