Ayat Nizam, a second-year student in the Canadian & American Dual JD Program, was recently elected vice chair of the Law Student Division of the American Bar Association (ABA) for the 2019-20 academic year. In this role, she will develop programs, content and events across the country to enhance the experience for all ABA members. She will also serve as a liaison to the ABA Standing Committee on Membership to maintain and develop membership programs.

“I am excited to volunteer as vice chair of the ABA Law Student Division because the role allows me to enter into the American legal sphere in such a large capacity,” said Nizam. “Being Canadian, I’m expecting my transition into the American legal field to have some barriers that may be difficult to overcome. However, being able to work with many members of the legal profession, from law students across the country to experienced lawyers in every field, will allow me to grow my network and learn in ways I could not without this opportunity.”

In addition to her national-level role, Nizam will continue to lead in law school as Dual JD 2L class president and a member of the Arab American Law Student Association and the Black Law Students Association.
