Well, I've never blogged before, but I suppose now is a good time to start given the upcoming events of this weekend.  Tomorrow begins the preliminary rounds of the Keenan Moot Court competition here at UDM, and I'll be the first to admit I'm very nervous!  My partner and I have been practicing for the oral argument for a couple weeks now after turning in our brief that basically took over all of our "free" time for a month.  I jus...

While law school has definitely involved its fair shair of multitasking challenges for me from the very beginning, this past year has been the most challenging. But I've made sure that it has also been fun. Traditionally 3L's like myself would coast through their last year, but not me!  I chose to take on quite a lot.  And I think that most 3L's are unable to coast in their last year just because of today's tight legal market and the mo...

74 days to graduation. The semester is flying by and this past month has been no exception. Our Memorial went in for the Niagara Moot and we’ve been heavily into practicing. I made it through midterms and even managed to escape for a lovely sun vacation with a good friend over reading week. I’m writing more job applications, organizing our year end Dual JD graduation event and working on launching our next moot committee project on the Canadian s...

A piece in Salon argues against the perception that pitbulls are unusually aggressive dogs.  I’m well-enough convinced (or sufficiently uninterested) to end my investigation here. That being said, if I were inclined to get a dog, I still wouldn’t get a pitbull.  If my neighbor gets a dog, I hope it’s not a pitbull.  If the city of Detroit wants to require the spaying and neutering of pitbulls, I’m all for it.  Pitbulls scare ...

Well I’m really glad I didn’t sign up for more credits. The first 2 weeks of the semester were busy! My classes are off to a good start. I have a variety of really interesting professors who know their subject area really well. Best of all they all enjoy teaching and working with students. In addition to this SBA (Student Bar Association) activities are kicking off for the semester and I’ve joined a local ski league. Lastly the memorials (submiss...

The second week of school is now over.  Everyone's back from the holiday.  Classes are well under way.  And student organizations are planning their awesome events.  I think it's safe to say that everything is now back to normal.  So far I like all of my classes this semester.  I say "so far" because everything is still new.  But I anticipate good things.  :)   Lately, I...

I made my last tuition payment yesterday. There is something very satisfying about the fact that after 7 years my schooling is about to start paying off rather than me paying for it. That being said my holiday 'break' was anything but. I started off with a last minute win for one of my clinic clients! After putting over a year and a half into a case it's an amazing feeling when it actually pays off in helping someone else.  After that I had...

So I had intended to make this post specifically about the Dual JD program but with everything else that has been going on it looks like that may have to wait a few days. My November, thus far, has been dedicated mainly to three things. The Ernie Goodman Moot, finishing my Advanced Advocacy paper and getting the moot problem out for the Canadian Law Games. I am pleased to report all of these things are now done. I mentioned in my last post that ...

Hello all! Thank you to all of my loyal readers who joined me for all of my law school adventures! I graduated in May, so I'm obviously not a "student blogger" anymore, but there were so many of you who followed my blog throughout my three years of law school, and I felt you deserved an update on my post-law school life. (Yes, there IS life after law school!) I took the Michigan Bar exam in July. Not to put too fine a point on it, yes, it is a...

No not of turkey or remembrance but rather of the evil end of term deadlines.  As of the 27th I will be done. I seem to recall someone back in first year explaining law school in the following manner. First year is all about your marks. You basically hibernate focusing solely on somehow beating the elusive curve so that come time to apply for summer jobs you can triumphantly present your straight A marks for all the employers and land the j...
