Blog Entry 1
Welcome to the UDM Law blogs…hopefully you will find our delightful banter helpful in choosing a law school and figuring out what you can expect once you start.
I am not really sure how to start…I know these blogs are supposed to give you insight into the student experience, so maybe I’ll start with why I’m here. I was a UDM undergrad, so I already knew all that UDM had to offer. UDM ultimately won me over with the small school feel and all of the work they have been doing to practicalize the law school experience (Applied Legal Theory and Analysis class, the Law Firm Program, emphasis on externships and clinics…). After my first few months, I am very sure that I have made the right choice for myself.
Anyway, I’m sure you are curious about what law students actually do. This was a pretty atypical weekend for me; my mom and I took an impromptu trip to Chicago to visit some family members, including my 91 year old great-grandmother. I suspect this past weekend was the last “relaxed” workload weekend until after finals, so it really was the perfect time to get away. I did have to make a concerted effort to get my reading accomplished while I was there, and this blog is being typed up in the car on the way home…but work-wise, I’m where I need to be for the week. (My weekends are rarely this exciting. Usually I have a bit of fun, then spend a lot of time piecing together my notes from the previous week and attempting to get ahead for the upcoming week. Yes, there are weekends where I am more successful with this than others…)
Feel free to e-mail me law school questions you would like me to address in this blog…I mean, I can blather on about my life all day, but if you have anything specific you would like me to address, I think that would make these blogs a lot more useful to you as prospective students. But that’s just my thoughts on the matter…
