Barrister ball info
Hotel rooms for Barristers Ball are now available!! The SBA and Barristers Ball Committee have negotiated with the Marriott Renaissance Center to provide a special rate of $132.00 (plus tax) for UDM Law students and faculty wishing to stay downtown on the evening of Barristers Ball, which is quickly approaching on Saturday, March 1, 2014!!! Hotel rooms can be booked online using the link provided below, or if you prefer, reservations can be called into the telephone number provided below. Anyone wishing specifically for a king bed vs. two double beds or vise versa should mention their preference in the "comments" section on the payment page, or to the representative on the phone. In order to lock in the great rate Marriott has provided us, rooms must be booked by SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8TH!!!!!
The SBA and Barristers Ball Committee are currently in the process of trying to arrange for transportation from the hotel to the Detroit Yacht Club and back at the end of the night for those staying at the hotel, however no definitive arrangements are available yet and students should presume for now that they will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the Detroit Yacht Club.

PENNY WAR!!

The 1Ls are currently creaming the competition in the Penny War! 2Ls, 3Ls, and Duals we must rally and end the madness!!

You can help your class win the war, or bomb another class TODAY - December 4 inside Student Services.

Take a few minutes today and gather up your loose change and a couple of bucks to help your class make a comeback (and of course, participate in a good cause while you're at it!)
All that change should be put into the 3L class jug (ha, kidding, put it in your own class jug) and then put your dollar bills in the 1L jug (not kidding, it's the only way for the rest of us to catch up!)
All change donated to your specific class is counted positively, and all paper money donated is counted negatively and is deducted from the positive total.

We'll keep you updated on the status of the war and the winning class will be rewarded!

All donations from all classes will be pooled together and used to adopt at least one local family that is in need this holiday season. Our goal is to donate one family per class year, but we cannot make that happen without you!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact any evening section SBA officer.

BLSA Detroit Fire Department Cleaning Supplies Collection Drive

Due to severe budget cuts many Detroit Firehouses are no longer supplied with basic necessities like paper
towel or other cleaning supplies. From now until December 13 we are collecting new and unopened cleaning
supplies to give to our adopted Firehouse. Show your appreciation to these brave men and women by dropping
off these needed necessities in the bin located outside of the BLSA office. Thank you for caring.

Warming Center

The Warming Center at Saint Peter and Paul Church is open once again, and is looking for volunteers. The church is located across the courtyard from the front doors of the law school. The Warming Center serves meals to the homeless every week day morning at 9 am during the fall and winter. Volunteers typically help out with light preparation and distribution of the meals for an hour prior to the meal, between 7:30 and 8:30, so those who have 9:00 class will have plenty of time to get back.

Volunteering at the Warming Center is a great opportunity to give back to your community and help those less fortunate than ourselves as we get to the time of year when they need it most, especially as the holiday season approaches.

To volunteer at the Warming Center please go to the Saint Thomas More Society TWEN page, under the ‘Sign-Up Sheets’ section. You can volunteer as much or as little as you like; there is no continuous time commitment. If you have any questions, please e-mail Andrew Johnston at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Bar Preparation Bootcamp

In light of the recent dismal par passage rates, the 3L class officers have sought the faculty's help in combating this sad trend. Some of the professors are onboard to hold a 2hr review once a week. There is still much organization to be done but in the mean time we've opened a 5-question survey to the 2L & 3L class to see what day/time would work best for all. A link to the survey will be posted on the Fall 2011/2012 UDM Facebook page. If you don't have Facebook it is: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KCPNYPJ

Warming Center

The Warming Center at Saint Peter and Paul Church is open once again, and is looking for volunteers. The
church is located across the courtyard from the front doors of the law school. The Warming Center serves
meals to the homeless every week day morning at 9 am during the fall and winter. Volunteers typically help out
with light preparation and distribution of the meals for an hour prior to the meal, between 7:30 and 8:30, so
those who have 9:00 class will have plenty of time to get back.

Volunteering at the Warming Center is a great opportunity to give back to your community and help those less
fortunate than ourselves as we get to the time of year when they need it most.

To volunteer at the Warming Center please go to the Saint Thomas More Society TWEN page, under the ‘Sign-
Up Sheets’ section. You can volunteer as much or as little as you like; there is no continuous time
commitment. If you have any questions, please e-mail Andrew Johnston at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

multiple opportunities to attend conferences, gain valuable business and legal skills, as well as, stay up to
date about current topics affecting businesses and their representatives. There also will be focus on interstate
and international topics.
