Grading Norms Policy pre 2011-12

Grading Norms Policy from 1981-82 through 2010-11

In the 1981-82 academic year, the School of Law faculty adopted the following grading norms for all numerically graded courses. Although not required, our faculty were highly encouraged to follow these grading norms when determining the curve and distribution of final grades in each course they taught. These norms were in effect until Term III, 2011:

Required Courses All Other Courses and Seminars
3.5-4.0                 5-15% 3.5-4.0             5-15%
3.0-3.4               20-40% 3.0-3.4             20-40%
2.0-2.9               35-55% 2.0-2.9             35-55%
1.0-1.9                   10% 1.3-1.9                10%
0.0-0.5                   5% 0.0-1.2                 5

Therefore, the median grade for each course was roughly 2.8 (B-).
