Upon graduation from law school, Professor Becker worked as an attorney in Middlebury, Vermont. In 1966, with the Vietnam war waging, he entered the Navy, serving on active duty as a Judge Advocate for 3 years, followed by another 13 years in the active reserves, and reaching the grade of Lieutenant Commander.
After leaving active duty in 1969, he started his legal career with Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, staying there for 22 years as a senior partner. Following that, he was a partner in Vestevich, Dritsas, Evans and Becker, and then of counsel with Stone, Biber and O'Toole. After solo practice for a few years, he became general counsel for First State Bank, and then 'retired' to solo practice. During that time, he taught Sales for 2 years as an adjunct in the winter terms of 2001 and 2002, before joining the faculty for the 2005-06 school year.
