Meet the Judges Reception

Meet judges of the federal and state courts during a casual reception in the Detroit Mercy Law atrium on Tuesday, October 11. The schedule for the evening  is:  registration from 5:00 - 6:00 pm; welcome remarks 6:00 - 6:10 pm; group photo 6:10 - 6:15 pm; network and meet the judges 6:15 - 7:30 pm. Our special guest will be the new President of the State Bar of Michigan, Larry Nolan. Detroit Mercy Law is co-sponsoring this event with the Catholic Lawyers Society of Detroit; Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers; and the Polish American Lawyers Society. USPTO Swearing-in Ceremony

Detroit Mercy Law's International Intellectual Property Law Clinic will host a swearing-in ceremony of attorneys by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Promote Peace

To promote peace and tolerance in the law school community and beyond, Detroit Mercy Law will host a dedication and blessing ceremony of a peace pole in the courtyard, followed by a presentation in the atrium where law students will share stories of discrimination based on race, religion, gender, and ethnic background. The peace pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of our hopes and dreams for peace in this world. This upcoming Promote Peace event is an effort to promote a culture of peace beginning with law students and expanding outward. Detroit Mercy Law joins many other organizations with a peace pole in Detroit, including the McNichols Campus of Detroit Mercy, Freedom House, Hope House, and the Fort Street Presbyterian Church. McElroy Lecture on Law and Religion

Our annual McElroy Lecture provides a forum for prominent thinkers and leaders to address fundamental issues of law and religion. This year's lecturer is Intisar A. Rabb, a Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and a Director of its Islamic Legal Studies Program. She also holds an appointment as a Professor of History at Harvard University and as a Susan S. and Kenneth L. Wallach Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.
