Selected Topics in Bankruptcy: Seminar on Evolving Issues in Business Insolvency Cases (4160)

This seminar is an opportunity for students to explore the changing face of business insolvencies in Michigan since the economic meltdown of 2008.  The class will address bankruptcy issues affecting businesses, the effects of the 2005 revisions to the Bankruptcy Code (BAPCPA) on business bankruptcy cases, and non-bankruptcy alternatives to dealing with failing or failed businesses, including banks' responses to same.  Students will develop and complete a research paper on issues involved in business insolvency matters.  It is recommended that students have taken Secured Transactions, or Business Organizations, or some other course that addresses commercial law matters prior to, or concurrent with this class.
