JD Orientation

Orientation Day and Evening schedules.

General Information


On Monday, August 15 and Tuesday, August 16, complimentary meals will be provided. Students may bring their own food and beverages for lunch and snacks throughout the rest of the week. The on-campus cafeteria will feature a variety of beverages and "grab and go" fare for purchase.


Throughout orientation, incoming students may park in the Student Parking Lot on Larned St. Students will be notified as to when to transition to the permanent parking location, Christ Church parking lot. Students may secure a parking permit in the Student Service Center (SSC).

Student ID

All Detroit Mercy Law students are required to possess and conspicuously wear a Detroit Mercy identification card while at Detroit Mercy Law. The identification card also serves as an access card that allows entry into the classroom spaces and southeast door on Jefferson Ave. Students who have yet to take their photo for the ID card must visit the SSC during Orientation.


Dress for Orientation (August 15-19) is business casual. Please note the exception for the day of professional headshots on the first day of classes, August 22nd.

Professional Headshots

Detroit Mercy Law photographs all first year students for the First Year Directory. All incoming students must get their photograph taken on the first day of classes, August 22nd, between 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Business attire is required for these photos. Please note, this is separate from the Student ID photos.

Family Welcome Event and Dinner

All incoming students (Day & Evening), and their parents and spouses/significant others are invited to a Family Welcome Dinner on Tuesday, August 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by an event from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Children are welcome to attend the Family Dinner. Students must RSVP their guests here for dinner by Friday, August 12, 2016.

Reading Assignment

Review the Day / Evening syllabus and assignment for the first day of Orientation. All students are expected to be prepared.
